Thinking like (a) Cirkel
Imagine that the world is circular…
Back in the day, somewhere between the cavepeople and Galileo, most people thought the world was flat. Like a line. Such a notion seems understandable without hard science to prove otherwise. After all, anyone sitting on a beach viewing the horizon could imagine a drop-off where the sea meets the sky.
No one knew any better.
But thankfully, it turned out that the world is, in fact, round. A world where sailors don’t sail over a cliff as the horizon fades away. Where we can circumnavigate the globe if we like. So it’s kind of odd that on this circular earth, we live our lives in such a linear way.
For years, most of us have consumed along a straight line of buy, use and throw away. Where our ‘stuff’ – clothes, indoor and outdoor – could end up in one of the piles in the Atacama desert in Chile (the world’s biggest landfill). Or where they might be burnt to cinders, with gases released in the process.
And yet, when it comes to the outdoors, we might want the latest kit that makes us feel good – warmer, drier, freer and, well, looking good. There’s nothing wrong with that. But most of us buy a ski outfit and wear it for less than 10 days each ski season. And for some, a purchase might be worn for a weekend a year. Clearly, this endless need to buy makes little sense.
So how can you look and feel good, without the expense – to you and the earth – of a new purchase? It’s simple. Just think in a circular way, where you borrow high-quality kit, then give it back. Then someone else borrows a clean version. Then they give it back. For a lifetime of borrowing. No packing, no washing, no big cash layout. That’s why there’s Cirkel – to rent high-quality outdoor clothing, when you need it. And live circular, in tune with the world we live in.
Buy less, use more, go explore.
